Fish Varuval Recipe / Whole fish Fry Recipe

Fish Varuval  / Whole fish Fry

    Ingredients :
    ***********
    Whole fish / Malabar Fish / Parai Fish / Jack Fish - 2 nos
    Chilli powder -1 tspn
    Coriander powder - 1 tspn
    Turmeric powder - 1/2 tspn
    Cumin powder - 1/2 tspn
    Fish masala powder - 1 tspn
    Lime juice - 2 tspn
    Onion to garnish
    Salt to taste
    Coconut oil needed
    Kesari powder -a pinch (optional)

Method :

  • Clean the fish and cut the skin with knife as shown before marinate the fish.



  • Prepare masala by mixing chilli powder,coraiander powder, turmeric powder ,cumin powder ,fish masala powder with lime juice and add salt to  taste.



  • Marinate the fish with the masala and keep aside for 30 mints.



  • Heat a flat tawa with little coconut oil and fry the fish to golden brown in low flame.

  • Crispy tasty fish roast is ready.

  • Garnish with onion.

  • Clean the fish. 

  • Mix all the ingredients (except curry leaves and oil) to make a paste. 

  • Marinate the fish with the paste and keep it for 1 hour . 

Heat a pan with oil and deep fry the pieces into golden brown.

  • Crispy Fish Fry is ready.

  • Garnish with sliced onions.

    Koduvai Fish / Sea Bass -1/2 kg (cut into slices)
    Chillii powder -1 1/2 tspn
    Turmeric powder -1/2 tspn
    Curry masala powder -1 tspn
    Corn flour powder -1 tspn
    Pepper powder -1/2 tspn
    Lime juice needed
    Salt to taste
    Oil to fry


Method :

  • Clean the fish. 
  • Mix all the ingredients (except oil) to make a paste. 
  • Marinate the fish with the paste and keep it for 1 hour . 
  • Heat a pan with oil and deep fry the pieces into golden brown.
  • Crispy Fish Fry is ready.
  • Garnish with sliced onions. 
  • Ideal for Rice varieties.

Fish Puttu Recipe / Vaalai Meen puttu Recipe /Shredded fish Recipe

 

Fish puttu/Vala puttu is one of my favourite dish. My mom's special Recipe too... she used to prepare this for me. Usually fish puttu is made out of sura meen/shark, but my mom used to make this puttu recipe with thuppuvaalai fish. Boil the fish in a pot with salt ,water and turmeric and later the bones are removed to make puttu ,but sura meen has less bones, we can easily removed, but vaalaimeen has number of small bones and it is little bit tough to remove all those little bones. It may be a laborious process and takes time. But the taste is yummy.

Clean and Cut the ribbon fish into pieces. Boil the fish in a pot with salt ,water and turmeric for 15 mints.

Cool it and remove the flesh from bones carefully.(the White fin wolf herring fish/Vaalai meen has number of small bones, so care should be taken while removing the flesh. It may be a laborious process and takes time)

For grinding :
***************
 
Grated Coconut -1/2 cup
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tspn
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tspn
Chilli powder - 1/2 tspn
Garlic pods - 4 nos
Curry leaves needed

prepare masala by grinding grated coconut,turmeric,cumin,curry leaves, chilli powder. Garlic pods in a coarse form.

  • Heat a pan and saute with mustard,urud,red chilli and curry leaves.

  • Add the shredded fish pieces and saute till the raw smell goes off.

Add grinded masala to the fish and saute well for few mints.

Now fish puttu is ready.

Turmeric powder -1/2 tspn

Red chilli -1/2 tspn
Garlic pods -4 nos
Grated coconut -1/2 cup
Curry leaves -needed
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tspn
Urud dhal - 1/4 tspn
Salt to taste
Coconut oil needed
