Left Over Recipe - Pepper Idly / Spicy Idly / Kids Recipe

Yesterday my friend with her family visited me and for them i prepared chapatti and idly with chicken kuzhambu. Some of idlis were left over as they prefer chapatti. I refrigerate the idlis for later use. Today i decided to prepare "Pepper Idly"for break fast and idly upma for evening with the left over.  As already i tried "Idly Idiyappam" "Idly Manchurian" "Podi Idly" and " "Chilli Idly" with left over idlis.

Pepper Idly

  • Cut the left over idlis into pieces.

  • Saute pepper and salt without oil and crush to powder.

  • Saute mustard,urud and curry leaves in ghee.

  • Add idly pieces and pepper salt powder.

  • Mix well.

  • Flavored spicy pepper idly is ready.

Ingredients :

Left over idly - 10 pcs
Pepper - 1tbspn
Mustard , urad dhal -1tspn
Ghee - 2 tspn
Curry leaves needed
Salt to taste

 Method :


  • Cut the left over idlis into pieces.

Left Over Recipe - Chilli Idly / Kids Recipe / Spicy Chilli Idly

Converting left over idlis to different form depends on the ingredients we use. Normally idly best suited for conversion. We can make varieties and i tried many items and all taste good. I have tried and posted some of my favorite "Idly Idiyappa Upma " "Idly Manchurian" "Podi Idly"
 Chilli Idly
  • Cut the left over idlis into cubes.

  • Deep fry to golden brown.

  • Saute mustard, urud, fennel seeds, green chillies and curry leaves.

  • Saute onion and add ginger garlic paste, saute well.

  • Add tomato and saute till it is mushy.

  • Add capsicum and saute well.

  • Add chilli powder, coriander powder, salt to taste and soya sauce.

  • Add fried idlis and mix well in low flame for few mints.

  • Garnish with spring onions.

  • Yummy spicy tasty chilli idli is ready to serve.

  Ingredients :

    Left over idly - 1/2 cup
    Onion - 200 gms
    Tomato - 150 gms
    Capsicum - 1/2
    Ginger garlic paste - 1 tspn
    Green chilli - 2 nos
    Red chilli powder - 1  tspn
    Coriander powder - 1 tspn
    Spring onion to garnish
    Mustard,urud dhal - 1 tspn
    Fennel seeds - 1 tspn
    Curry leaves needed
    Oil needed
    Soya sauce - 1/2 tspn
    Salt to taste



Method :

  • Cut the left over idlis into cubes.

  • Deep fry to golden brown.

  • Saute mustard, urud, fennel seeds, green chillies and curry leaves.

  • Saute onion and add ginger garlic paste, saute well.

  • Add tomato and saute till it is mushy.

Banana ChoCoffee Mousse




Hi friends, 
The idea of mousse strike me when my friend "Vimala Lakshmi"Announced an event with 5 ingredient fix namely MILK/MILK PRODUCTS,SUGAR,NUTS(ANY KIND OF NUTS),FRUIT(ANY ONE KIND OF FRUIT),BUTTER.
 Mousse is a foamy, creamy, fluffy dish, French origin with ingredients like cream and fruit.


Banana ChoCoffee Mousse

  • Separate egg yolk and white.

  • Cream egg yolk and sugar well.
  • Melt 20gms butter and add chocolate and coffee powder. Mix well.

  • Fold into the egg yolk and sugar.

  • Add milk and mix well.

  • Beat egg white.

  • Fold in.

  • Add 1/2 tspn of crushed nuts and sliced banana.

  • Refrigerate for 1 hour.

  • Mix maida, icing sugar,1/2 tspn of nuts,10gms of butter and orange juice.

  • Mix well.

  • Spread out in a greased cup and bake in a preheated oven at 280 C for 10 mints.

  • Base is ready.

  • Now place the refrigerated mousse into the base.

  • You can decorate as you wish.

  • Serve immediately.

Cocoa powder - 100 gms
Butter - 30 gms
Egg -2 nos
Sugar - 2 tbspn
Milk - 1 tspn
Coffee powder - 1 tspn (I used bru instant)
Crushed Nuts - 1 tspn (Cashew ,badam ,pista)
Banana - 1/2 piece
Orange juice - 10 ml
Maida flour - 1 tbspn
Icing sugar - 1 1/2 tspn


Preparation for the mousse :

  • Cream egg yolk and sugar well.

  • Add milk and mix well.

Note : I tried two patterns, one with normal base with spread mousse and another molded base with decorated mousse. Serve immediately as the mousse will melt fast.

Left Over Recipe - Podi idly / Kids recipe / Easy Recipe

After preparing "Idly Manchurian", i tried "Podi Idly" with the remaining left over. The dish came out well and the preparation time is just 5 mints. Kids will enjoy this for its spicy taste. We can transform left over idlis into variety, tasty, innovative dishes.
Podi idly

  • Saute mustard,urad dhal and curry leaves add minced garlic, cumin seeds and saute well.

  • Saute idly podi for 1 minits.

  • Add left over idlis and switch off the flame.

  • Mix evenly.

  • Tasty podi idly is ready.

    Idly podi / Idly milagai podi -1 tbspn
    Minced garlic - 1 tspn
    Cumin seeds - 1/2 tspn
    Mustard, urad dhal - 1 tspn

    Oil needed
    Curry leaves needed


Method :

  • Saute mustard,urad dhal and curry leaves add minced garlic, cumin seeds and saute well.

  • Saute idly podi for 1 minits.

  • Add left over idlis and switch off the flame.

  • Mix evenly.

  • Tasty podi idly is ready.

Left Over Recipe - Idly Manchurian (Dry) / Fried Idly Manchurian / Kids Recipe

This Sunday my son asked me "Mini Sambar Idlis" for dinner. Sambar idlis are his favourite and mine too. Some of the idlis were left over. Today morning i decided to use the left over for break fast and so prepared Idly Manchurian and Podi Idly. To my surprise both dishes were delicious and tasted good. On tasting the idlis my son hugged me and said "wonderful ma" .

Its an easy quick kids friendly recipe and u can change left over idlis to yummy idli manchurian.

  • Cut the left over idlis in to slices.

  • Mix corn flour ,ginger garlic paste,besan flour, red chilli powder,garam masala,cumin powder, kesari powder and salt to taste.

  • Sprinkle little water and mix well.

  • Add idly pieces and coat the mixture evenly.

  • Deep fry to golden brown.

    Besan flour/Kadala maavu - 1tbspn
    Kashmiri chilli powder - 1 tspn
    Garam masala - 1/4 tspn
    Cumin powder - 1/2 tspn
    Kesari powder - a pinch (optional)
    Salt to taste
    Oil needed
    Curry leaves to garnish


Method :

  • Cut the left over idlis in to slices.

  • Mix corn flour ,ginger garlic paste,besan flour, red chilli powder,garam masala,cumin powder, kesari powder and salt to taste.

  • Sprinkle little water and mix well.

  • Add idly pieces and coat the mixture evenly.

  • Deep fry to golden brown.

  • Garnish with fried curry leaves.

  • Crispy crunchy idly manchurian is ready.

  • Easy and tasty recipe done within 5 mints.

Notes : For crispy oil free manchurian ,make sure that the oil is at its optimum boiling point so that idly won't absorb oil.
