Left Over Recipe - Idly Upma / Easy Recipe

After plentiful of tasty morning break fast "Pepper Idly", i and my son sit together to prepare for his exams. As i planned ,I decided to prepare "Idly Upma" for the evening. My son hate upma. When i told him to have upma he refused initially and after tasting a spoon, he loved the idly upma and emptied everything. It is a tearful job to peel small onion and thinking of the taste its nothing.

Idly Upma

  • Slice small onion into thin round slices.
  • Crumble the refrigerated left over idly with mixie in to coarse form.
  • Saute mustard ,urad dhal, red chillies and curry leaves.
  • Add generous pinch of asafoetida.
  • Add sliced onion and saute well till it golden brown.
  • Add crumbled idly and add salt to taste.
  •  Saute well.
  • Tasty yummy upma is ready.

Idly Upma 
Ingredients :

    Left over idlis - 5 nos
    Small onion / shallots - 250 gms
    Red chilli - 2 nos
    Asafoetida - generous pinch
    Curry leaves needed
    Salt to taste
    Gingelly oil needed
    Mustard, urad dhal - 1tspn


Method :

  • Slice small onion into thin round slices.
  • Crumble the refrigerated left over idly with mixie in to coarse form.
  • Saute mustard ,urad dhal, red chillies and curry leaves.
  • Add generous pinch of asafoetida.
  • Add sliced onion and saute well till it golden brown.
  • Add crumbled idly and add salt to taste.
  •  Saute well.
  • Tasty yummy upma is ready.

Note :
  • Gingelly oil, small onions and red chilli makes the upma more tastier. 
  • U can crumble the idlis with hands if the idlis are a day old and not refrigerated.
  • For the left over idly upma i prefer small onion only. 
  • U can use big onion also but the taste varies.
