Sakkarai Pongal Recipe / Sweet Pongal Recipe / Celebrating 100th Post

Hi Friends...Iam posting my 100 th post today...Thank u all for the support and encourages through comments and likes.I'm much grateful and thankful to all of u.
Today's recipe in 'chikkuskitchen' is traditional Sakkarai Pongal.
Sakkarai pongal is  a popular indian festival food, especially south indian authentic festival recipe. I'm happy to share this to all of u. Pongal is not only the festival recipe, all time favourite of south Indian.

Sakkarai Pongal Recipe / Sweet Pongal Recipe

Ingredients :

Raw rice - 1/2 cup
Moong dal / pasi paruppu -2 tspn
Jaggery - 3/4 cup
Grated coconut -1/4 cup
Cashews -15 pcs
Raisins - 1 1/2 tspn
Edible camphor -a small pinch(optional)
Cardamom powder -a pinch
Ghee needed
Water - 3 cups

Method :

  • Heat a cooker with little ghee and roast the moong dal.
  • Add rice ,water and cook it for 4 whistles.
  • Mash it well.
  • Break the jaggery in to small pieces. Add water and boil it, so that the jaggery completely dissolves.
  • Filter the impurities.
  • Now add the jaggery solution to the boiled rice, moong dal and mix well.
  • Roast cashews,raisins,cardamom powder, grated coconut in ghee and add a pinch of edible camphor(optional).
  • Add the roasted cashews,raisins,cardamom powder, grated coconut,a pinch of edible camphor(optional) to the mixture and mix well.
  • Add extra ghee to taste and flavour.
  • Sakkarai pongal is ready to serve.
